Question about hydroelectric dams

   Hello. I have a casual interest in dams, and I was curious, how do they keep the penstock intakes on large hydroelectric dams (such as California's Shasta Dam)  free of debris? I know there is some sort of screen in front of them, but wouldn't the screen get clogged eventually? Thanks.
